TECHNOLOGY UPDATE: GOOGLE-TWITTER COALITION DISPLAYS LIVE TWEETS IN SEARCH RESULTS

25th June 2015 – the day the internet will remember forever!

The internet has today revealed a monumental change in its search algorithms, with Google and Twitter being heavily to blame for this shift. The two technology powers have come together in a plea to deliver more accurate, relatable results for searches, allowing tweet-based searches to provide tweet-based results.

Where this is not the first time two tech giants have united it is the biggest coalition to form in technology for a long while, altering the way in which people search and behave online.

Believing this to be a sign of consumer progression MOBO Director, Alex Wigmore says:

‘It shows a clear sign of the direction Google is trying to push the web, to a more dynamic, live, unique and user created world, where dull static websites aren’t possibly the answer to all searches.’

Where Twitter has been a social media hub in light of today’s change it is now also a useful marketing tool, providing businesses with a new avenue in which they can entice their target market.

Giving searchers a clear window into a business this change will further endorse online-based businesses, with name searches revealing pictures and live tweets.

In a statement from Google they said:

‘To start, we’re launching this on Google.com in English in the Google app (on Android and iOS) and on mobile browsers, rolling out gradually. We’re working on bringing it to more languages and to desktop, so stay tuned.’

An example

Below is the search result from ‘Limo Broker’ a luxury limo hire firm. Here you will see that just by searching the company name the user is inundated with images and tweets grabbed from their Twitter account, giving searchers a more in-depth first image of the company.

In a nutshell this new content sharing agreement will see people searching through Google app (or any other mobile/tablet device), being presented with live content and relative trending tweets.

‘The desktop version is rumoured to be arriving very soon, presumably before the end of May. The results currently are only applicable to US based searches and users, however this will quickly roll out to further users and countries in the coming days.’ Claims Alex.

Having stayed tuned for many months we at MOBO are excited by this change, helping clients make the most of this newfound visibility.
