TREMENDOUS TECH FAILS

MOBO Media

While the world of technology has given us so many life-changing devices the truth is techies do get things wrong. Over the years we have seen many product flops, with some of the biggest names in the industry working on projects that they would rather forget. Intrigued by both successes and failures here are some of the most embarrassing tech fails to date.

EE’S TOO MUCH POWER BAR

Power is an issue that all tech firms are eager to solve, wanting to create smartphones and tools in order to retain battery levels for longer than just a few hours. EE a few years ago launched a power bar; a device that gives your phone juice instantly. However, it does seem that there is such thing as too much power, with these devises catching fire on many customers. Recalling over a million packs EE are no longer offering this product.

Toyota non-stop acceleration

Between 2009-2010 Toyota experienced a long run of misfortune, recalling cars on a constant basis. One of the most memorable was the non-stop acceleration, seeing the carmakers recall a whopping 9 million cars! According to the firm accelerator pedals were getting stuck down, causing numerous speed-related issues on UK motorways.

The Amazon hoverboard

When launching the hoverboard (that didn’t hover) Amazon promised to have launched a seamless product that was safe and offered unmatched fun. However, the reality was somewhat different, with the hoverboard making the news for overheating and setting on fire. Asking customers with faulty plugs to simply throw them away or take them to a recycling centre Amazon saw a great backlash of unhappy customers (not on hoverboards).

Apple plug adapters

Apple had to recall thousands of plugs a few years ago, with its redesign boasting many flaws. Nearly electrocuted people in Europe, Australia, Korea and Brazil, Apple found that too many corners had been cut when creating the adapter, with the threat of electrocution being far too great to ignore.
