With Wales recognised for their loyal fanbase by UEFA just yesterday it seems that we are still reaping the benefits of Wales’ success in the European Championships, also returning to the top ten of FIFA’s world rankings, leap-frogging Spain and neighbours, England.
However, this week the games have been celebrated not just for its legendary football ability, seeing the official UEFA EURO 2016 website up for two Lovie Awards. Nominated for two categories in the sixth annual awards the website is to be honoured amongst the best in European internet, nominated for Best sports website and Best home/welcome page.
According to the Lovie site voting closes on 22nd September, with the winners announced on 27th September to the public.
Breaking various digital record Lovie justifies the nominations, writing:
‘There were over 300 million visits to EURO2016.com and the official apps during the tournament, generating 1.5 billion page impressions between the eve of the tournament on 9 June and the day after the final on 11 July – almost four times the levels reached during UEFA EURO 2012.’
In addition to the Best sports website and Best home/welcome page the site was also nominated for the section entitled ‘UEFA EURO 2016 Fantasy Football’, making the shortlist for The Web: Games category of the Lovies.
